"Pilate said, 'Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.'" John 18:31
How can I fathom? Jesus came down from Heaven to live the life of a servant and be handed over to be judged by the world? and yet it agreed to do so? and what does it give him but the death sentence.
"My father, if it is possible may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." Matthew 26:39
And on top of that, the death he faced was not the worst of it. His brutal death and betrayal on the cross was only the outer fringe of what was actually happening. The cup he drank was filled with the wrath of God which was meant for us. All of the sin we have ever committed were on him. As he was mocked and beaten, the nails driving through his hands, he drank the cup that was ours to bear. He has saved us from death.
"For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." John 3:17
The world put him away and sentenced him to death as though he were the problem, all the while, he is the remedy. The ONLY remedy. The light in the darkness. The narrow path to life. The savior of the world.
"If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very last words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day." John 12:47-48
