Redeemed from the empty way of life

"'Be holy, because I am holy'
Since you call on a Father who judges
each man's work impartially, live your lives
as strangers here in reverent fear.
For you know that it was not with perishable
things such as silver or gold that you were
redeemed from the empty way of life
handed down to you from your forefathers,
but with the precious blood of Christ,
a lamb without blemish or defect."
1 Peter 1:16b-18

How awesome is it that we have been redeemed from the empty way of life both now and forever?! We are no longer bound by the things that earth has to offer and we are no longer slaves to our possessions! The things of this world that people seek for pleasure and satisfaction never seize to disappoint, regardless. The reason for this being, that it was not for the things of this world that we were created, but for God. He is our joy and satisfaction. He alone can save and he alone can quench our thirst, so much so, to the point that suffering for the sake of the kingdom is way better than delighting in the things of this world.

"But even if you should suffer for what is right,  you are blessed. 'Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened' But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord."
1 Peter 1:14-16a
